The driving force of establishing behavioural intervention modalities and medication therapies to treat mental and emotional suffering has long been the leading motivation among the mental health profession and over time these methods have come to be accepted as the standard of care for those in-need of therapy. One could argue though the Holistic Community has been somewhat overlooked within this occupation and intuitive-based healing modalities have seldom been included as a viable option within the mainstream of alternatives. Uncertain as to why this is given the fact for thousands of years, as a race, we have been largely influenced by naturalistic views. For instance, basic science would agree that all living form is a phenomenon that of energetic disposition, largely reliant upon an inner source of intellect and sensitive to external environments. It is well-known for example, that trees can sense insect attacks and expel repellent chemicals as a means of protection and plants have sensing devices capable of tuning-in to varying conditions. There’s also the ‘Fight-or-Flight’ response, whereby describing how animals and humans possess natural abilities to sensing danger in high stress or harmful situations. All these existences share in common an instinctive quality that is of a natural reaction and not from learned behaviour. Comparatively Ayurveda, is a consciousness-based approach aimed at studying the mind, body and spirit and relying heavily on the laws of nature and its universal elements. It suggests that air, fire, water, earth and ether are the essential building blocks for bringing balance and harmony to both the universe and the human race, and it is believed the relationship between humans and the universe is to be intrinsic and one that cannot essentially be separated. So, if we accept INTUITION as being; “a thing that one knows or considers likely from instinctive feeling rather than conscious reasoning”, and combine it with evidence of studies showing increased levels of activity found in the frontal lobes of brains examined from individuals considered as HIGHLY INTUITIVE; then one could easily shoulder the likelihood that there are individuals who may indeed have heightened natural abilities, capable of tuning-in to deeper levels of ‘intrinsic’ consciousness and/or awareness. Thus, albeit a new-age location, INTUITIVE HEALING in recent years has been growing in popularity and unquestionably has been paving its way to becoming a very meaningful and highly effective alternative therapy to those preferring a more holistic, naturalistic approach to mental and emotional health and well-being.
