EMPATH TRAITS
Empaths - Are highly sensitive to the emotions of others. An empath will often pick up on another person’s emotions. The highly sensitive nature of an empath can contribute to helping heal others from their emotional or physical distress, which is why intuitive empaths have become popular forms of holistic healers. Intuitive Empaths - Intuitive empaths can naturally tune-in to negative emotions, inaccurate perceptions and energy imbalances that are contributing to one's unsettledness or dis-ease. Many people suppress feelings and negative events that have occurred in their lives, such as trauma or tragedy. These feelings can be so hidden that even the person themselves does not recognize they exist. However, they can still cause physical and psychological problems. An intuitive empath can recognize these emotions and feelings and bring them to light, allowing the person to properly process them. This can help to rebalance the life energy in the chakras and bring a person back to full health and well-being.
EMPATHIC TRAITS An estimated 2-4% of the population are Empathic. An estimated 1% of the population are Intuitive Empaths.

Near Death Experiencers - NDE's “Around eighty percent of the people who experienced near-death states claimed that their lives were forever changed by what happened to them. On closer examination though, a pattern of surprising dimensions emerged. Experiencers were not returning with just a renewed zest for life and a more spiritual outlook. They were evidencing specific psychological and physiological differences on a scale never before faced by them.” P. M. H. Atwater, L.H.D.
Researcher P.M.H. Atwater, L.H.D is the author of Dying To Know You: Proof of God in the Near-Death Experience, one of the world’s leading researchers on near-death experiences, and a survivor of 3 NDE’s. After having interviewed thousands of NDE experiencers for her work, she has moved beyond the curiosity of what lies beyond, and has researched the after effects of NDE’s in ordinary people finding some curious patterns. Common among the after-effects are: Changes in personality, often including becoming more loving, calm, and non-judgmental, or leading to major life changes, like divorce, estrangement from family and friends or increased magnetism around others. Noticeable increase in intuitive and psychic capabilities, including communication with spirits, plants and animals. A shift in a sense of life priorities. A sense of timelessness and non-duality. Sensitivity to light and sound. Changes in attitudes about health, wellness and spirituality. In addition to these notable after effects, the research of P.M.H. Atwater revealed another, more bizarre pattern, indicating that many people undergo rather remarkable changes to their body's electromagnetic field. Called ‘electro-sensitivity’ this can bring on puzzling, frightening, and even dangerous situations for some of the most sensitive of NDE survivors.

Other General Information There are many names for being ‘empathic’ or being an ‘empath’, but the most common name for this ability or skill is ‘clairsentient’ - the ability to ‘sense clearly’. Having ‘clairsentient’ or ‘empathic’ or ‘empath’ skills can be confusing and at times even confronting as you may feel overwhelmed by emotions that you KNOW are not your own. When you possess an ability such as ‘clairsentience’ you may often possess others such as ‘clairvoyance’ (the ability to ‘see clearly’), ‘clairaudience’ (the ability to ‘hear clearly’), ‘claircogniance’ (‘clear thinking’, learning and knowing) and others such as premonitionary skills, animal communication skills and/or you may have an extremely strong intuition and maybe even the ability to see, hear, connect and communicate with Spirit (eg. angels, spirit guides and passed over people on the ‘Other Side’) Being empathic and other abilities are gifts to be cherished and used for the highest good of all. It gives one the ability to ‘feel’ and understand life, (and others) at a deeper level, as well as expand our own awareness and perceptions.
There are different kinds of empathic people, or empaths. Some pick up on physical elements and feel physical aches, pains, symptoms and ailments. Others feel other’s emotional pain and upheaval, as well as others’ joy and happiness. An empath is able to feel the emotions or physical state of another person as if it were their own.
Empaths feel the need to help others just as strongly as the need to breath and stay alive. Many can sense atmospheric changes and disturbances, others can ‘feel’ animals, and yet others can feel electromagnet waves and energies.
Empaths (and highly sensitive people) must shield themselves from negative vibrations from others and the environment around them (eg. at work, shopping centres and around crowds of people).
Empaths must also ground themselves in order to re-balance themselves. This can be easily done by being in contact with nature, by utilizing crystals, with the use of salt & selenite lamps and essential oils.
Being empathic also requires the ability to balance energies. The Chakras must remain clear, clean and free-flowing in order to function at their optimum. This can be done during meditation and spiritual healing as well as via other techniques.
Part of our jobs as empaths is to raise the energy and vibrational rate of our surroundings and within others. This can be achieved through prayer/meditation, sending healing, love and light and by helping heal others and our planet.
Empaths have the ability to scan another's psyche for thoughts and feelings or for past, present, and future life occurrences. Many empaths are unaware of how this actually works, and have long accepted that they were sensitive to others. Every experience is a living energy that an empath can sense, connect and communicate with, hence their ability to visit one's past and assist in deep seeded healing processes.
Empaths Sense Deep Emotions Empathy is a feeling of another's true emotions to a point where an empath can relate to that person by sensing true feelings that run deeper than those portrayed on the surface. People commonly put on a show of expression. This is a learned trait of hiding authentic expression in an increasingly demanding society.
An empath can sense the truth behind the cover and will act compassionately to help that person express him/herself, thus making them feel at ease and not so desperately alone.
Empaths experience empathy towards family, children, friends, close associates, complete strangers, pets, plants and inanimate objects. Empathy is not held by time or space. Thus, an empath can feel the emotions of people and things at a distance. Some are empathic towards animals, nature, and/or the entire planetary system/universe.
Empaths Have Deep Sense of Knowing Empaths are highly sensitive. This is the term commonly used in describing one's abilities (sensitivity) to another's emotions and feelings. Empaths have a deep sense of knowing and are often very compassionate, considerate, and understanding of others. Their niceness and genuine caring personality for others may often be misunderstood as a weakness in a work environment which can sometimes end in stressful situations for an empath, which is why empaths need to be careful in choosing a career. A healthy work environment would be one where they are able to express themselves fully and have the freedom to make decisions and judgment calls independently. They work well on their own relying on their inner knowing and very rarely need support of others when making decisions. Upper level management and self-employment work would play out well for balanced empaths, they can be of great value to a company's executive team or leading a company of their own. They can bring light, positivity and harmony to any work environment and be of service in many ways.
There are also varying levels of strength in empaths which may be related to the individual's awareness of self, understanding of the powers of empathy, and/or the acceptance or non-acceptance of empathy by those associated with them, including family and peers. Generally, those who are empathic grow up with these tendencies and most often do not learn about their gift entirely until later in life, when they feel a deeper need to understand their purpose.
Empathy Inherited? Empathy may be genetic, inherent in our DNA, and passed from generation to generation. It is studied both by traditional science and alternative healing practitioners.
Empaths often possess the ability to sense others on many different levels. From their position in observing what another is saying, feeling and thinking, they come to understand another. They can become very proficient at reading another person’s body language and/or study intently the eye movements. While this in itself is not empathy, it is a side-shoot that comes from being observant of others. In a sense, empaths have a complete communication package.
How Empathy Works While there is much we don't yet understand about how empathic abilities work, we do have some information. Everything has an energetic vibration or frequency and an empath is able to sense these vibrations and recognize even the subtlest changes undetectable to the naked eye or the five senses. Words of expression hold an energetic pattern that originates from the speaker. They have a specific meaning particular to the speaker. Behind that expression is a power or force-field, better known as energy. For example, hate often brings about an intense feeling that immediately accompanies the word. The word hate becomes strengthened with the speaker's feeling. It is that person's feelings (energy) that are picked up by empaths, whether the words are spoken, thought or just felt without verbal or bodily expression.
Empaths are often poets in motion. They are the born writers, singers, and artists with a high degree of creativity and imagination. They are known for many talents as their interests are varied, broad and continual, loving, loyal and humorous. They often have interests in many cultures and view them with a broad-minded perspective. They are mother, father, mentor, best friend, nurse, psychiatrist, teacher, CEO, doctor, sales people... to psychic, clairvoyant, spiritual counsellor, healer, etc. (That is not to say that any of these categories are all empaths.) The list is extensive and really unimportant. It is more important to notice that empaths are everywhere--in every culture and throughout the world.
Empaths Are Good Listeners Empaths are often very affectionate in personality and expression, great listeners and counselors (and not just in the professional area). They will find themselves helping others and often putting their own needs aside to do so. In the same breath, they can be much the opposite. They may be quiet, withdrawn from the outside world, loners and/or life's daydreamers.
They are most often passionate towards nature and respect its bountiful beauty. One will often find empaths enjoying the outdoors, beaches, walking, etc. Empaths may find themselves continually drawn to nature as a form of release. It is the opportune place to recapture their senses and gain a sense of peace in the hectic lives they may live. The time to get away from it all and unwind with nature becomes essential to the empath. Animals are often dear to the heart of empaths, not as a power object, but as a natural love. It is not uncommon for empaths to have more than one pet in their homes.
Traits of an Empath Empaths are often quiet and can take a while to handle a compliment for they're more inclined to point out another's positive attributes. They are highly expressive in all areas of emotional connection, and talk openly and at times quite frankly in respect to themselves. They may have few problems talking about their feelings.
However, they can be the exact opposite: reclusive and apparently unresponsive at the best of times. Some are very good at blocking out others and that's not always a bad thing, at least for the learning empath struggling with a barrage of emotions from others, as well as their own feelings.
Empaths have a tendency to openly feel what is outside of them more so than what is inside of them. This can cause empaths to ignore their own needs. In general an empath is non-violent, non-aggressive and leans more towards being the peacemaker. Any area filled with disharmony creates an uncomfortable feeling in an empath. If they find themselves in the middle of a confrontation, they will endeavor to settle the situation as quickly as possible, if not avoid it all together. If any harsh words are expressed in defending themselves, they will likely resent their lack of self-control, and have a preference to peacefully resolve the problem quickly.
Empaths are sensitive to TV, videos, movies, news and broadcasts. Violence or emotional dramas depicting shocking scenes of physical or emotional pain inflicted on adults, children or animals can bring an empath easily to tears. At times, they may feel physically ill or choke back the tears. Some empaths will struggle to comprehend any such cruelty, and will have grave difficulty in expressing themselves in the face of another's ignorance, closed-mindedness and obvious lack of compassion. They simply cannot justify the suffering they feel and see.
People of all walks of life and animals are attracted to the warmth and genuine compassion of empaths. Regardless of whether others are aware of one being empathic, people are drawn to them as a metal object is to a magnet! They are earth's beacons of light. Even complete strangers find it easy to talk to empaths about the most personal things, and before they know it, they have poured out their hearts and souls without intending to do so consciously. It is as though on a sub-conscious level that person knows instinctively that empaths would listen with compassionate understanding.
They are the listeners of life. Empaths are often problem solvers, thinkers, and studiers of many things. As far as empaths are concerned, where a problem is, so too is the answer. They often will search until they find one--if only for peace of mind.
